About T’Challaween

T’Challaween is South Seattle’s annual free, community-powered, Halloween trick-or-treat parade & family fun fest.

Founded in 2020 by the South Seattle Emerald, T’Challaween began as a socially distant celebration designed to keep children safe and spirits high during the pandemic. From candy chutes and masked neighbors on the Beacon Hill has grown into a signature event that now draws nearly 1,000 attendees each October.

A TRIBUTE TO OUR SOUTHEND HEROES

The name “T’Challaween” honors King T’Challa of Marvel’s Black Panther as a symbol of Black excellence, justice, and strength. Like the superhero himself, this event celebrates representation, resilience, and joy. Each year, T’Challaween pays tribute not only to fictional heroes, but to the real ones among us: essential workers, grassroots leaders, artists, parents, and neighbors who make the South End thrive.

COMMUNITY-POWERED

T’Challaween is a testament to what is possible when neighbors, volunteers, businesses, and nonprofits come together. Volunteers hand out nearly 250lbs of candy, community partners host stations and performances, and local sponsors provide the resources that make it all possible.

T’Challaween is free to attend, but it is not free to produce. This event is only made possible through the generosity of volunteers, donors, sponsors, and grantors. By supporting T’Challaween, you are helping sustain a beloved South End tradition and demonstrating your commitment to building strong, equitable communities.
